Call for Papers and Posters

Applications for papers and posters to be presented at the 2006 National Carcass Disposal Symposium in December are being sought by the symposium committee.  This committee is comprised of members from Cornell Waste Management Institute, Iowa State Cooperative Extension, Maine Compost Team, National Center for Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Disease Defense at Texas A&M, North Carolina Dept Agriculture, Penn State Cooperative Extension, USDA APHIS and ARS, U.S. EPA.

The symposium and subsequent conference proceedings will stimulate future research and influence public policy concerning animal mortality disposal. Animal disposal is a major concern for livestock and poultry operators, and policy makers. This symposium will highlight current research, current and emerging disposal methodology and public policy issues concerning carcass disposal.

Themes to be addressed will include:


Ø                Research and public policy on carcass disposal in response to routine mortalities; natural disasters; and disease outbreaks

Ø                New & emerging carcass disposal technologies    

Ø                Carcass treatment options

Ø                Final product disposition                                  

Ø                Public policy on disposal of wildlife; marine mammals; and agricultural mortalities

Ø                State and agency response and training experiences

Ø    Submit abstract as an email attachment in Word doc format.

Ø    Include title, name of submitter, company, phone, email contact.

Ø    Limit abstract to 300 words detailing presentation contents or research project.

Ø    Poster dimensions will be no larger than 44x44 inches. 

Ø    Abstracts will be evaluated on technical quality and applicability of subject matter to the conference theme.

Ø    Please include key points (bullet format) that will be addressed.
